A lively family-owned restaurant in Vík í Mýrdal. We put emphasis on fresh quality ingredients.

About us

Suður-Vík was one of two farms in Vík before the town began to form and was a true large farm in the time of Halldór Jónsson, a merchant, who built the house in 1902. The house was a residential building until the 1980s but after that it served various functions; as a home for the elderly, a music school and finally a kindergarten, until we took over it in 2012. Various changes had been made over the years, but with our improvements we tried our best to restore the original spirit of the house, and succeeded. We love the house very much and it is very important that our guests feel as good as possible and enjoy eating with us!

 Staðfesting Best of the Best
We enjoyed this restaurant on our second night in Vik - the atmosphere was fabulous, quaint, comfortable, and friendly.  I had a burger and, honestly, the best burger I ever had anywhere.

 Staðfesting So yummy we went three times!
Boy did this place hit the spot on a cold, rainy day!  Try the soup! The food was absolutely delicious...everything we ordered.  We loved it so much we came back two more times.  Lovely staff as well!

 Staðfesting Great pizzas
The pizza here is tasty – with lots of creative flavors and interesting variety – and the service is fast and friendly too. The only downside is that it’s clearly no secret – the waiting room was packed with walk-ins (luckily we made a reservation) – but even if we had to wait, it would have been worth it.

 Staðfesting Sehr guter Lachs
Wir haben einen wirklich köstliches Abendessen genossen. Der Lachs mit Bratkartoffeln war wirlich ausgezeichnet. Zum Dessert der Brownie und der Skiyrkuchen ebenfals. Der service war sehr freundlich und schnell. Die Preise für Island normal.

 Staðfesting Yummy soup and friendly owners
Returning to Vik after 9 years we were amazed by how built up and touristy the town is now. We were looking for something more authentic and true to Iceland than a lot of the offerings now I’m Vik. Craving soup on a cold rainy Fay we actually walked in and then walked right back out when we saw how Americanized it was. I found seafood soup on the menu here and was sold. So meaty and delicious. Quaint and cozy restaurant and really nice and friendly staff. They only have about 7-8 tables so if you’re going during a busy time (we were there at 3pm), might want to try to make a reservation.
